Bay Area customers: most of your pumps reach us in a box, not a truck bed. See both ways to use the bench.

Run a search for injection pump rebuild Bay Area. Most of what comes back is in Michigan, Maine, or Southern California. That is not a search engine glitch. It is an accurate picture of the trade: in a metro of more than seven million people, almost nobody still runs an in-house diesel injection calibration bench.

Valley Fuel Injection & Turbo runs those benches in Woodland, in the farm country northeast of the Bay. By road that is 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on your bridge. By ground courier it is typically one business day each way. We have rebuilt and calibrated injection pumps and injectors here since 1993, and much of what sits on our stands in any week arrived by carrier. This page is for Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, and everyone in between: why the bench is out here, and the two ways to put your pump on it.

Why the Bay Area Has Almost No Bench Left

A calibration test stand is a six-figure machine that needs factory data, a parts library reaching back sixty years, and a technician who does nothing else all day. A general repair shop cannot justify owning one, so bench work consolidated long ago into a few regional specialists, mostly out in the ag counties where mechanical injection never went away.

To say it plainly and fairly: the Bay Area is not at absolute zero. A longtime rebuilder still works in the East Bay, and there are good general diesel shops from Concord to Gilroy pulling and hanging pumps every week. But the regional list of true benches is very short, and for most of the Bay, especially the Peninsula and the South Bay, none of it is close. Drivers in Fremont, Hayward, and San Jose usually discover this at the counter: the shop quotes the removal and install labor, then explains that the pump itself is going somewhere else.

Somewhere else is a place like here. Woodland sits in the Sacramento Valley, where tractors, harvesters, and irrigation engines kept injection benches busy for decades. We are Bosch-certified, we hold authorized-dealer lines for Kubota, Yanmar, Delphi, and Alliant Power, and every rebuild carries a 12-month unlimited-mileage warranty plus 30 days on electrical and electronic components. Call it the Northern California bench, reachable from any Bay Area zip code by tomorrow morning.

A Courier Day or a Windshield Day

Ship it. This is how most of the Bay Area uses us. Ground service between the Bay and Woodland typically runs one business day in each direction. Call 530-668-0818 first with the numbers off the pump tag so we know what is coming and can line up parts. Our mail-in rebuild service page covers the rest: how to pack the unit, where to send it, and what happens after we sign for it. The short version: the box beats the bridge.

In a genuine hurry? For common electronic pumps, ask about the exchange program. A rebuilt, calibrated unit ships to you, your core comes back to us, and the truck is working while the paperwork catches up.

Or drive it. Some jobs deserve a conversation at the counter, and some owners want to put the pump in the rebuilder’s hands themselves. Here is the honest math from around the Bay, in free-flow traffic:

Coming fromMilesFree-flow driveThe honest read
ConcordAbout 64About 1 hr 20 minThe closest Bay city. A real drive-in option.
OaklandAbout 79About 1 hr 40 minDrivable for big jobs. Most ship.
San FranciscoAbout 84About 1 hr 45 minThe Bay Bridge decides. Most ship.
HaywardAbout 93About 1 hr 55 minShip it unless you are combining trips.
FremontAbout 102About 2 hr 5 minCourier territory.
San JoseAbout 115About 2 hr 20 minShip it. The pump travels better than you do.

Real Bay Area traffic adds 15 to 45 minutes to every number above, which is why the carrier does this run more often than our customers do. If you drive, we open at 7:00 AM, early enough to beat the worst of I-80. Get directions on Google Maps.

Bay Area Shops and Fleets: Sublet the Bench, Keep the Job

If you run a repair shop anywhere from Santa Rosa to San Jose, you already do the hard part: diagnosis, removal, install. What you do not have is a stand to test and calibrate what you pulled. Send it to ours. We test what arrives, rebuild and calibrate to factory spec, document the numbers, and ship it back to your bay. Your customer never leaves your building, and you keep the labor on both ends. Set up a wholesale account and your parts runner never has to cross the causeway.

The same arrangement fits fleets: drayage trucks working the port, construction iron, delivery vans, municipal equipment. Injector sets come back tested, matched, and documented for the fleet file. And the sailboat auxiliaries in Alameda and Sausalito slips run the same small Yanmar rotary pumps we calibrate off tractors all week.

What the Bay Area Sends Us

Tractor or orchard equipment on the ag edges of Contra Costa or Alameda County? That work starts here: tractor injection pump rebuild.

Bay Area Questions

Is there anywhere in San Francisco or San Jose that rebuilds injection pumps?

For in-house bench work, essentially no. Diesel shops in both cities handle diagnosis and R&R well, and the pump itself gets subletted out. The practical question is not who is nearest. It is whose bench your pump ends up on, and that part you get to choose.

How long does shipping from the Bay Area actually take?

Ground carriers typically move a package between the Bay and Woodland in one business day each way. Total turnaround depends on our bench schedule and parts for your specific unit, so call with the pump tag for this week’s real answer, including whether an exchange unit would be faster.

Can I drive up and wait while you do it?

No, and be suspicious of anyone who says yes. A rebuild ends with calibration across the pump’s whole operating range, and doing that right takes bench time. Drive-ups are drop-offs. Plan the trip around the delivery, not the repair.

Do you actually want work from shops, or just retail customers?

Shops are half the point of this page. Wholesale sublet work from Bay Area shops, fleets, and dealers is a normal day here. Contact us for an account.
