The Delphi 8923A050G is a new DP200 rotary injection pump for a Perkins 4-cylinder turbo diesel that Delphi lists as Perkins Darwin 4T, list LP18, 2200 rpm. It carries Caterpillar service number 197-3901 and Perkins numbers 2644F528 and UFK4F528. Parts catalogs list it for Caterpillar 420D backhoe loaders and Caterpillar 908 compact wheel loaders built with this engine.

Shops replace a DP200 for hard starting, low power, smoke, fuel leaks or internal wear from water and dirt in the fuel. Check your machine before you order: the 420D and 908 were built with more than one engine and pump. Other 420D builds use Delphi DP210 pumps (for example 9320A340G, Cat 249-9226), and other 908 builds use different pumps too.

Perkins DP200 pumps are lock-timed. A new pump may come with its drive shaft locked by a locking screw. Set the engine to top dead center on No. 1 cylinder, compression stroke, before the pump goes on, and never turn the engine or the pump shaft while the screw is locked on the shaft. Once the pump and gear are fastened, put the spacer under the locking screw so the shaft is free. Fit a new flange O-ring, use clean fuel and new filters, and bleed the system before starting. Follow the engine service manual for torque values.
