This is the Garrett 848212-5002S, a new GT3788VA variable-geometry turbocharger, not a rebuild. It is the stock replacement for the 2011 to 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD with the 6.6L Duramax LML. It comes with a new VGT control valve and a new vane position sensor. It replaces GM 12642314, 12642129 and 12677684, which GM now lists as 19434580, and Garrett 800799-0002 and 800799-0003.
Low boost, slow spool, a vane position or boost code, oil in the intake tract or shaft play you can feel are the usual reasons an LML turbo comes off. Sticking vanes from soot are common on these trucks, so check the vane control and the exhaust side before you condemn the turbo. Garrett also offers this turbo remanufactured as 848212-9002S, and the two fit the same trucks.
Confirm Fitment Before You Order
The 2011 to 2016 6.6L Duramax came as the LML and the LGH. This turbo is for the LML, which has 8 as the 8th digit of the VIN. The LGH has L there and is found in Express and Savana vans and in cab and chassis trucks. LGH vans take Garrett 848212-9003S instead. On a cab and chassis truck, read the number on the old turbo or send us your VIN and we will confirm the engine. Call 530-668-0818 and we will confirm the exact match at no charge before anything ships.

- 2011 to 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD, 6.6L Duramax LML

Find out why the old turbo failed before the new one goes on. Fit a new oil feed and check the drain, change the engine oil and filter, clean the intake tract and charge air cooler of oil and debris, and prime the turbo with clean oil before first start. Use a new gasket and seal kit: the install kit for this engine is Alliant Power AP0165, a separate part.
