This is a new, genuine Kubota starter motor, part number 16285-63010. It is a 12 V, 1.2 kW unit with a 9-tooth pinion. Kubota engine dealers list it for some builds of the D722 and of the 05 Series engines: the D905, D1005, D1105, D1305, V1305 and V1505 diesels, plus the WG1605. It is also listed for the Kubota U15 compact excavator. It is Kubota’s replacement for starters 16271-63010 and 16285-63012.

Replace a starter when it clicks but will not turn, cranks slowly on a good battery, grinds on engagement, or pulls too much current. Rule out the battery, cables, grounds and the start signal first. Kubota built these engines with more than one starter. Two of them, this one and 37560-63010, are both 12 V, 1.2 kW, so the ratings alone will not tell them apart. Disconnect the battery before removal. Before you fit the new starter, count the pinion teeth and compare the mounting flange and terminals with the old one. Clean the mounting face and the ground path, check the flywheel ring gear for worn or chipped teeth, and tighten the mounting bolts to Kubota’s torque spec.
