The Stanadyne 29279 is a new, genuine Stanadyne pencil fuel injector: the 9.5 mm pencil nozzle John Deere uses on its PowerTech 4.5 L and 6.8 L engines with mechanical injection pumps. It fits the turbocharged 4045T and 6068T and the turbocharged, air-to-air aftercooled 4045H and 6068H. John Deere sells it as RE48786, which replaced RE44508. It carries a pink color band.

Pencil injectors are replaced for hard starting, smoke, rough running, misfire, or leaks past the carbon stop seal. Replace them as a set so opening pressures match across cylinders: four on a 4045 and six on a 6068. Several other Stanadyne pencil nozzles fit these engines with different calibrations, so match the number and color band on your old injector.

Every time a pencil nozzle comes out, fit a new carbon stop seal and seal washer (John Deere uses the JD258 seal installer). Clean the nozzle bore and the carbon stop seal groove, and make sure the head seat is smooth and clean. Torque the hold-down clamp cap screw to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) and the leak-off line nuts to only 5 Nm (44 lb-in); leak-off lines break if overtightened. John Deere lists the opening pressure for a new or reconditioned RE48786 at 3,700 to 3,780 psi (255 to 260 bar), with no more than 100 psi difference between cylinders. The leak-off tee, grommet and nut are separate parts; replace old plastic ones that are brittle.
