Which VP30 do I need?
VP30s differ from one another on three things: system voltage, engine family, and the Bosch part number stamped on the pump. Get all three right and the pump drops in. Get the voltage wrong and nothing works, which is the single most common reason people call us before ordering.
- Check the voltage at the pump connector, not the battery. A 24-volt VP30 on a 12-volt system will not run, and the two are not interchangeable.
- Match the engine family — Cummins 4BT 3.9L is not the same pump as Cummins 5.9L ISB/QSB, even at the same voltage.
- Confirm the Bosch number on the tag on your existing pump. That number is definitive; the engine model on its own is not.
| Engine / application | Volts | Bosch part number |
|---|---|---|
| Cummins 4BT 3.9L / ISB / QSB | 12V | 0470004018 |
| Cummins 4BT 3.9L / ISB / QSB | 24V | 0470004019 |
| Cummins 5.9L ISB / QSB | 12V | 0470006005 |
| Cummins 5.9L ISB / QSB / 6BT | 24V | 0470006006 |
| Perkins 1106 / AGCO / Massey Ferguson / Linde | 12V | 0470006002 |
| Perkins 1106C-E60TA / Caterpillar 3056E | 24V | 0470006003 |
| Ford / New Holland TM-series & Case IH CNH 7.5L | 12V | 0470006007 |
Not sure which line is yours? Send a photo of the tag on your pump to the shop, or call (530) 668-0818 and a tech will read it with you. Monday–Thursday 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Friday until 4:00 PM PST.
How to read your pump tag
Every Bosch VP30 carries a metal tag on the pump body. The long number beginning 0470 is the Bosch part number and it is the one that matters — it encodes the voltage, the governor calibration and the drive. There is usually a second number alongside it: the engine manufacturer’s own part number (Cummins, Perkins, CNH). Either one lets us identify the pump, but the Bosch number is faster and less ambiguous.
If the tag is missing, unreadable, or painted over — common on a pump that has been in service twenty years — we can identify it from the engine serial number and the machine it came out of. That is a phone call, not a form.
How you actually get a VP30 from us
There are two paths, and which one applies depends on what is on the shelf the day you call.
Rebuild your own pump. This is the usual path for VP30. You ship us your pump, we disassemble it, inspect it, and rebuild it to Bosch specification on our own calibration benches. You get your pump back, tested against the numbers for your engine. Very few shops in the country rebuild VP30s — most sell whatever they can source and hope it fits — which is why the listings above show a quote link rather than a checkout button. It is not that the pump does not exist. It is that we build yours rather than sell you someone else’s.
Exchange for a reman unit. When we do have a bench-tested VP30 on the shelf in your configuration, you can buy that outright and send your old pump back as the core. The price includes a refundable core charge. Send the core back within 30 days and the core charge is refunded, provided it is rebuildable — no cracked bodies, no fire damage, nothing missing. Exchange gets your machine running sooner because you are not waiting on a rebuild.
Either way, the first step is the same: call the shop with your Bosch number or your engine serial, and we will tell you which path applies and what it costs before any work starts.
Bench testing and what “remanufactured” means here
Every pump that leaves this building has been run on a calibration bench and set to the delivery and timing specification for the engine it is going on — not to a generic profile. Valley Fuel Injection has been a Bosch factory-authorized diesel service center since 1993, and the benches, the tooling and the specification data are the reason that authorization exists. A pump rebuilt without that equipment can be assembled correctly and still deliver the wrong fuel volume at the wrong moment, which shows up later as hard starting, smoke, or a hole in a piston.
Warranty
Remanufactured injection pumps and injectors carry 12 months / unlimited mileage from the date of purchase, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal operating conditions. Electronic parts and sensors carry 30 days. Full terms are on the warranty page.
Shipping and lead time
We ship nationwide from Woodland, California via UPS and USPS. In-stock orders are processed within 1–2 business days; orders placed after 2:00 PM PST may not ship until the following business day. If a pump is not in stock we will contact you with an estimated date rather than leave the order sitting. Rebuild turnaround depends on the condition of your pump and what it needs — we quote it after inspection, before we start. See the shipping policy for carrier options and transit times.
Questions we get asked
Why is there no “add to cart” on most of these? Because we usually rebuild your pump rather than sell you one off a shelf. The quote link starts that conversation, and the price depends on what your pump needs.
Can you tell what’s wrong before I ship it? Often, yes. Symptoms narrow it down over the phone, and we would rather tell you it is a lift pump or a wiring fault than take a good injection pump apart.
Do you work on VP44s and VE pumps too? Yes — see VP44 and VE, and our guide to VE and VP30 rebuilds covering what fails and why.
Do you take fleet and agricultural accounts? Yes. Fleet, ag and industrial equipment is most of what comes through the shop.
I’m not local — does that matter? No. Pumps ship to us from all over the country. See mail-in rebuild service for how to pack and send one.
