This is the Garrett 777318-5003W, a new GTB2056VK variable geometry turbocharger, not a rebuild, for the 3.0L V6 OM642 diesel in the 2010 to 2018 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter. It belongs to the Garrett 777318 family, the factory turbo for this engine, and this number is the upgrade version: it has a billet compressor wheel where the stock turbo has a cast one. It is a direct replacement for the stock unit, it has the threaded port for the exhaust gas temperature sensor, and gaskets are included. Catalogs also list it for Mercedes-Benz ML320, ML350, GL320, GL350, R320, R350, E320 and E350 3.0L diesel models.
On the OM642 the usual turbo complaints are low power or limp mode with boost or vane position codes, a siren whine, oil in the intake tract and smoke. Many of those trace to the vane actuator, a split turbo inlet seal, or oil cooler seals leaking in the engine valley under the turbo, so check those before you condemn the turbo. If the old turbo failed from oil starvation, find the cause before you fit the new one.
Confirm Fitment Before You Order
The OM642 was built in several versions, and earlier engines have no exhaust temperature sensor at the turbo. Have your VIN and the Garrett number from the tag on your old turbo ready (for example 777318 or 764809). Call 530-668-0818 and we will confirm the exact match at no charge before anything ships.

Change the engine oil and filter and check the oil feed and return lines. Fit the new gaskets that come with the turbo. If your engine has no exhaust temperature sensor at the turbo, the sensor port has to be closed with a plug, so ask us before you order. Check the oil cooler seals in the engine valley and the intake seals while the turbo is out.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Garrett 777318-5003W fit?
It fits the 3.0L V6 OM642 diesel in the 2010 to 2018 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter. Catalogs also list it for Mercedes-Benz ML, GL, R and E class 3.0L diesel models. Send us your VIN and we will confirm it before you order.
How is 777318-5003W different from the standard 777318 turbo?
It is the same GTB2056VK turbo and the same fit. This number is the upgrade version, with a billet compressor wheel in place of the cast wheel.
Will it fit a 2007 to 2009 Sprinter 3.0L?
Catalogs do not agree on the 2007 to 2009 vans, so we do not list those years. The turbo has a port for the exhaust temperature sensor that earlier engines may not use. Call 530-668-0818 with your VIN and the number on your old turbo first.
Is it new, and what comes with it?
It is a new Garrett turbocharger, not a rebuilt unit, and gaskets are included.
