This is the Alliant Power D8N7005, a new 7000 Series fuel injector nozzle for Caterpillar 3304 and 3306 mechanical engines. It is a new pencil nozzle, not a rebuild. It takes the place of Cat 8N7005, which replaced the older Cat 8N7001. Cat’s own remanufactured numbers for this nozzle are 0R3418 and 0R1740. Catalogs list Cat 8N7005 for a long run of machines, among them the D4E, D5B, D6D, D6H and D7G tractors, the 936E, 950B and 966D wheel loaders, the 12G and 140G motor graders and the Challenger 65 farm tractor. It is sold each: four for a 3304, six for a 3306.
Hard starting, a miss at idle, black or white smoke, fuel in the oil and high fuel use all point at worn nozzles on these mechanical engines. Nozzles wear as a set, so most shops change every cylinder at the same time and check the injection pump and lines while they are in there. This is a mechanical nozzle with no electrical connector, so there is nothing to code.

The 3304 and 3306 were built in more than one fuel system version, and catalogs show some machines with more than one nozzle, so the machine model alone does not settle it. This one is Cat 8N7005 (8N7001, 0R3418, 0R1740). The 3400 series nozzles Cat 4W7017 and 4W7018 are different part numbers, sold here as D4W7017 and D4W7018.
