Fit a new mounting gasket and seat the pump plunger squarely on its drive before you tighten the two flange bolts. Use the primer lever to fill the filter and bleed the low-pressure side, then check both hose connections for leaks. If the lever has no stroke, turn the engine a little so the pump drive is off its high point.
