The Alliant Power D29279 is a new pencil fuel injector, not a rebuild. It is Alliant Power’s own version of the Stanadyne 29279, the 9.5 mm pencil nozzle John Deere fits to turbocharged PowerTech 4.5 L and 6.8 L engines with a mechanical injection pump: the 4045T and 6068T, and the air-to-air aftercooled 4045H and 6068H. John Deere sells that nozzle as RE48786, which replaced RE44508, and the original carries a pink color code. You need four for a 4045 and six for a 6068.
This is the conventional turbo injector of the family. Naturally aspirated 4045D and 6068D engines take the D32262 (Stanadyne 32262, John Deere RE60062, red), and Tier 2 turbo engines take the rate-shaping D38416 (Stanadyne 38416, John Deere RE531436, blue). John Deere sets each to a different opening pressure, so never mix them in one engine. We also list the genuine Stanadyne 29279 for anyone who wants the original brand. Pencil injectors are replaced for hard starting, smoke, rough running, a miss or leaks past the carbon stop seal. Replace them as a set.
Confirm Fitment Before You Order
John Deere lists both the conventional RE48786 nozzle and the rate-shaping RE531436 nozzle on some of the same 4045 and 6068 engine models, and other lookalikes exist (32262 red, 35050 blue, 35102, 36710, 36713, 38645). Send us the number stamped on your old injector, or the engine model code and serial number from the engine tag (it looks like 4045TF150). Call 530-668-0818 and we will confirm the exact match at no charge before anything ships.

Every time a pencil nozzle comes out, fit a new carbon stop seal and seal washer, clean the nozzle bore and make sure the seat in the head is clean and smooth. John Deere torques the hold-down clamp cap screw to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) and the leak-off line nuts to only 5 Nm (44 lb-in) on the 4.5 L and 6.8 L engines; leak-off lines break if overtightened. John Deere’s opening pressure setting for a new RE48786 nozzle is 255 to 260 bar (3,700 to 3,780 psi), with no more than 7 bar (100 psi) between cylinders.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the D29279 and the D38416?
Both fit turbocharged 4045 and 6068 engines. D29279 is the conventional nozzle (John Deere RE48786, pink). D38416 is the rate-shaping nozzle John Deere uses on Tier 2 certified engines (RE531436, blue), set to a lower opening pressure. Fit the type your engine was built with.
What numbers does the D29279 replace?
It is the Alliant Power version of Stanadyne 29279, which John Deere sells as RE48786. Older and related numbers are Stanadyne 29278 and John Deere RE44508, SE501101, SE500826 and SE500827.
Is the D29279 a genuine Stanadyne injector?
No. It is a new injector made for Alliant Power to the Stanadyne 29279 pattern. If you want the Stanadyne brand, we list the genuine Stanadyne 29279 as well.
Will it fit a naturally aspirated 4045D or 6068D?
No. Those engines take the D32262 (Stanadyne 32262, John Deere RE60062, red). If you are not sure, call 530-668-0818 with the engine model code and serial number.
