It fits the 2001 to 2002 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L Cummins ISB 24-valve High Output engine, the 245 hp rating that came with the 6-speed manual transmission and the VP44 pump. It replaces Cummins 3946306. The Bosch holder type is KBEL84P162, but order by the full Bosch number or the Cummins number, not by the holder type alone.

A miss at idle, white or gray smoke, a fuel knock, hard starting or fuel in the oil can all come from a worn nozzle or a low opening pressure. On these VP44 engines a weak lift pump or a failing injection pump gives some of the same complaints, so check supply pressure and pump codes before you replace a set. The engine takes six injectors.

Fit a new sealing washer under each nozzle, keep the bore clean and torque the hold-down to the engine maker’s figure. On the 24-valve head, fuel reaches the injector through a connector tube in the side of the head: check each tube tip and its o-ring, and replace any that are marked or leaking. The tube is a separate part, Bosch F00ZR20002 (Cummins 3944833, Mopar 5013856AA), one per cylinder. Change the fuel filter at the same time.
