Kubota GL14000 LowboyPro Diesel Generator (14 kW)

The GL14000 LowboyPro is the largest of Kubota’s GL Series: 14 kW maximum (standby) and 12 kW rated (prime), single phase, built around the Kubota D902 three-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel at 3600 rpm. Unlike the GL7000 and GL11000 there is one version only, and it carries both receptacles and an output terminal block.

That makes one unit work for a job site, for backup and for a fixed installation. It has a weather-protective enclosure, built-in spill containment with an overflow warning, and a fuller control panel with volt, amp and frequency readout. We supply it new as an authorized Kubota dealer and quote each unit by phone.

Outlets and Terminals

  • GL14000 (one model): Two 120 V 20 A GFCI duplex receptacles and one 120/240 V 50 A twist-type receptacle, plus a single-phase, 3-wire output terminal block. An auto start panel is a Kubota option.

Features

  • Receptacles and terminal connections on one generator
  • Access terminal for an automatic transfer switch as standard
  • Compact, low-profile design from direct engine coupling
  • Weather-protective enclosure that shields the internal parts. Kubota’s manual still says not to use it where it is exposed to rain.
  • Built-in spill containment with overflow warning indicator
  • Dual-layer surface coating on critical parts for corrosion resistance
  • All service points on one side
  • Engine shut-off protection for low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, charging fault and overspeed
  • Control panel with hour meter, fuel meter, tachometer and volt, amp and frequency meter

Typical Uses

  • Construction: site office trailers, big compressors, lifts, battery chargers
  • Farm and ranch: shops and well pumps
  • Industrial and mobile work: ground heaters, food trucks, essential equipment
  • Backup power for a shop or medium office through a transfer switch

Add up the running watts and the starting watts of everything you plan to power before you pick a size. Motors need extra power to start. Your electrician can check the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the GL14000 come in a receptacle model and a terminal model?

No. There is one GL14000, and it has both: two 120 V 20 A GFCI duplex receptacles, one 120/240 V 50 A twist-type receptacle and a single-phase, 3-wire output terminal block.

Can a GL14000 back up a building?

Yes, through a transfer switch. Kubota fits an access terminal for an automatic transfer switch as standard, and the auto start panel is a Kubota option. Kubota lists the grounding as neutral bonded, so give that to your electrician when the transfer switch is chosen. A licensed electrician must install the transfer (isolation) switch before the generator is tied into building wiring.

How long does a GL14000 run on one tank?

Kubota’s spec sheet lists 7.0 hours at full load, 9.0 hours at three-quarter load, 11.0 hours at half load and 15.0 hours at quarter load on the 9.62 gallon tank. Fuel use at full load is 1.29 gallons an hour.

GL14000 or GL11000?

The GL14000 gives 12 kW rated against 10 kW prime, and 50 A at 240 V against 41.7 A, with a 9.62 gallon tank against 7.4. It has outlets and terminals on the same unit, where the GL11000 comes as a receptacle model or a terminal model. The GL11000 is the lower unit: 27.5 inches tall against 35.24.

What does a GL14000 take for routine service?

Kubota sells a maintenance kit for the GL14000, KEAGM-14000: oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and one gallon of oil. We list that kit. Follow the service intervals in the Kubota operator’s manual for your unit.

How do I get a quote on a GL14000?

Call 530-668-0818 for a quote. Ask about Kubota options such as the auto start panel.

Before You Run It

  • Run it outdoors only, in a well-ventilated spot. Never run a generator inside a home, shop or enclosed trailer.
  • Do not use it in the rain or where it is exposed to rain. Kubota’s operator’s manual lists this as an electric shock hazard.
  • Before it is connected to a building’s wiring, a licensed electrician must install a transfer (isolation) switch. Backfeeding a building can electrocute line workers and damage the generator.
  • Use ultra low sulfur diesel only (No. 2-D S15). Kubota’s manual covers No. 1-D S15 for cold weather.
  • Kubota says not to plug sensitive electronics straight into a generator. Ask your electrician about a safe way to connect them.
  • California: it is a violation of Public Resources Code Section 4442 or 4443 to use or operate this engine on any forest-covered, brush-covered, or grass-covered land unless the engine is equipped with a spark arrester, as defined in Section 4442, maintained in effective working order, or the engine is constructed, equipped, and maintained for the prevention of fire pursuant to Section 4443. Check that the unit has a working spark arrester before you use it on forest, brush or grass land.

Warning symbolWARNING: Breathing diesel engine exhaust exposes you to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

  • Always start and operate the engine in a well-ventilated area.
  • If in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
  • Do not modify or tamper with the exhaust system.
  • Do not idle the engine except as necessary.
