Cummins fuel systems are what we do

Every generation of the 5.9L and 6.7L runs a different injection setup, and each one fails in its own way. A 12-valve loses a P7100 or drops a killer dowel pin. A 24-valve kills a VP44 and gives you the dead pedal. An 03 to 07 common rail wears out injectors and works its CP3. A 6.7L can grenade a CP4. We have been rebuilding these exact pumps and injectors on Bosch benches since 1993, so we are not guessing which part is tired. We test it and prove it.

If your truck is broken in the driveway right now, the fastest path is a phone call. Describe what it is doing and we will tell you whether you are looking at a pump, an injector set, or something upstream that would just kill the new parts. Call 530-668-0818 or send us the details.

What we service on a Cummins

Pumps, injectors, turbos, and the diagnostics to tell which of the three you actually need. Across every 5.9L and 6.7L generation, plus the ISB and QSB industrial and agricultural engines running the same fuel systems.

5.9L 12-Valve (1989–1998)

The Bosch VE rotary on the first-gen trucks and the P7100 inline that 12-valve owners never want to give up. Mechanical injectors tested for pop pressure and spray pattern.

5.9L 24-Valve (1998–2002)

The electronic VP44 that defines this generation, plus its injectors. When it goes, it usually takes your power and your patience with it.

5.9L Common Rail (2003–2007)

The Bosch CP3 and the common rail injectors that wear out quietly and cost you fuel economy and smooth idle first.

6.7L (2007–Present)

Early CP3 trucks and the later CP4 that can take a whole fuel system with it. Plus 6.7L common rail injectors.

ISB, QSB, Industrial & Ag

The same B-series fuel systems in trucks, tractors, generators, and equipment, including older PTG-AFC mechanical pumps. Harvest does not wait, and neither do we.

Turbos & Diagnostics

Holset and aftermarket turbocharger service, plus the bench diagnostics that separate a fuel problem from an air problem before you spend a dollar.

The Usual Suspects

Common Cummins problems and how we fix them

These are the failures that bring Cummins owners to us. Each one has a symptom guide if you want to read the full story, and a bench service that ends it. If you already know which one you have, skip the reading and call.

ProblemWhat is happeningHow we fix it
VP44 failure (24-valve)Dead pedal, hard starts, surging, and stalls on the 98 to 02 trucks. Read the VP44 failure guide.Tested and rebuilt on the bench, not swapped blind. Shop VP44 pumps, or read P7100 vs VP44.
6.7L injector failureRough idle, white smoke, knock, and fuel in the oil. The 6.7 injector problems guide covers the signs.Bench-tested and rebuilt to spec. Send them in for common rail injector testing.
CP4 failure (6.7L)A CP4 that comes apart sends metal through the whole fuel system. Sudden no-start, metal in the filter.Full common rail system repair, or a CP4 to CP3 conversion so it never happens again.
Killer dowel pin (12-valve)The factory dowel backs out of the gear housing and can take the timing cover with it. The classic KDP guide explains it.Addressed while the front of the engine is open, and the natural time to freshen a P7100.
Worn injectors, tired pumpNo single failure, just miles. Harder cold starts, more rattle, more smoke, economy quietly down.A bench test tells you what is actually worn before you buy parts. See all rebuild services.

Why Bring A Cummins To Us

We rebuild these pumps ourselves. We do not sublet them.

Most shops that hang a Cummins pump send the actual rebuild out to someone like us and mark it up. We are the bench. Your VP44, P7100, CP3, or injector set is torn down, tested, and rebuilt to Bosch specification in this building, by the person who will hand it back to you. That is a straight answer about what failed and why, not a boxed part and a guess.

We have been a Bosch certified diesel fuel injection shop since 1993, with the factory test benches to prove what your pump and injectors are actually doing under load. See our Bosch injection testing and repair. Many parts are available on a returnable core through our exchange program, so hang onto your old unit. It has value.

Everything we rebuild carries a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty, with 30 days on electrical and electronic components. Turnaround depends on our current bench schedule and parts for your specific unit, so call and we will tell you honestly where things stand this week.

What It Runs

Bench rebuild pricing to set expectations

These are typical ranges for the bench work itself, not install labor, which happens in your shop or ours. Final cost depends on the condition of the unit, the parts it needs, and current parts pricing. Call for an exact quote on your part.

ServiceTypical bench range
VP44 pump rebuild (24-valve)$1,800–$2,800
P7100 pump rebuild (12-valve)$2,000–$3,200
CP3 pump rebuild (common rail)$1,200–$2,000
Common rail injector (per injector, reman)$300–$550
CP4 to CP3 conversion (full)$4,500–$8,500

A tested rebuild you can trust beats the cheapest reman off a shelf, and it beats replacing a pump that was never the problem. Prices vary with engine condition, parts brand, and the market, so treat these as a starting point and call for your unit.

Cummins questions we get

Do you fix Cummins engines, or just the fuel system?

We are a diesel fuel injection and turbo shop, not a full engine shop. What we do better than almost anyone is the pumps, the injectors, and the turbos: testing them, rebuilding them, and telling you which one is the real problem. If the fault is in the fuel or air system, that is us. If you need a long block, we will tell you that too, straight.

My 24-valve has the dead pedal. Is that always the VP44?

Usually, but not always. The dead pedal points at the VP44 most of the time, and a failing lift pump often takes the injection pump with it. We test the pump to confirm before you spend the money, rather than swapping it on a hunch. The VP44 failure guide walks through the signs.

Should I convert my 6.7L CP4 to a CP3?

If your CP4 is still alive, a conversion is cheap insurance against the failure that contaminates the whole fuel system. If it already failed, the conversion is often the smart way to rebuild so it does not happen twice. We do the CP4 to CP3 conversion in shop and supply the pump. Call and we will tell you whether it makes sense for your truck.

I am not near Sacramento. Can you still help?

Yes. Roughly nine out of ten parts we work on arrive by mail. Pull the pump or injectors, or have your local shop pull them, and ship them to us. We bench them, report the numbers, rebuild what needs it, and send them back. Our mail-in rebuild service is built for exactly this.
